Courses: Postgraduate by Research
Research Masters and Doctoral degrees are progressed under the joint administrative guidance of the CCI_RHD and the Graduate School. These places are funded by the Commonwealth Research Training Scheme to develop new researchers and original knowledge.

The Doctorate is the highest degree awarded by the University and graduates personify the outcomes of the ECU Research Training Scheme. Entry is competitive and effectively limited to First Class or 2A Honours graduates, or people who have successfully completed a Research Masters degree. The importance of the award is reflected in the involvement of the Universitys Research Students and Scholarships Committee (RSSC) in approving the nomination of examiners and in reviewing examiner reports before recommending on the award of the final grade.

Doctoral student progress has several externally-monitored milestones. The research proposal is to be approved within 12 months of full-time enrolment; progress is reviewed at 2_ years (and at least annually thereafter for slow-completing students) and research training scheme students (Masters and Doctorates) are all offered an exit interview upon graduation.
